Amber bracelet – how to choose the shape, colour and length

An amber bracelet is something you wear every day – with a jumper or a shirt. Chosen well, it looks modern rather than like a holiday souvenir. Here are answers to the questions we hear most often.

1. Shape: beads, chips or set elements

Bead bracelets on elastic are the most common – light and inexpensive, but rather traditional. Chips and freeform pieces show more of the amber’s pattern. The third option is set elements: at ZILVANO we set Baltic amber in fossil bog oak and jeweller’s resin. The contrast of black and warm, golden amber looks contemporary and suits a man’s wrist too.

2. Amber colour

  • Honey and cognac – the classic, warm and versatile.
  • Milky (butterscotch) – opaque and soft, lovely with light outfits.
  • Green – rarer, a strong accent.
  • Red-brown – dark and elegant, great with black and navy.

3. Length and fastening

Measure your wrist just above the wrist bone and add 1–2 cm of ease. Adjustable bracelets are the most comfortable – ours are on an adjustable jewellery cord, so they fit both slim and larger wrists.

4. Genuine amber – what to watch for

Cheap bracelets are often made of pressed amber, dyed amber or plastic. Ask directly whether the amber is natural Baltic amber and request a certificate.

5. Care

Amber is soft (around 2–2.5 on the Mohs scale) and sensitive to chemicals. Take your bracelet off for washing up, bathing and swimming, keep perfume away from it and store it separately.
